PROJECT SUMMARY
The project is about using marginal lands across Europe to develop sustainable and circular value chains to produce bioproducts and biofuels from natural raw materials. South Africa brings another perspective with the use of biomass from the clearing of lands covered with invasive alien trees. The project’s approach includes the overall analysis of the rationale for such value chains, the identification of optimal supply chain models to increase their financial feasibility, the assessment of the eligibility and magnitude of additional revenues and incentives from the sale of carbon credits for bioenergy and biochar. The project also focuses on the examination of biodiversity and other ecosystem services impacts of clearing the land for the supply of nascent biomass processing industries.
