PROJECT SUMMARY
Coastal Vegetated Ecosystems (CVEs) are crucial for providing an array of climate-related ecosystem benefits, that include the capture and storage of carbon and coastal protection from sea level rise and storm events, as well as supporting numerous other provisioning services. In South Africa CVEs are declining in area cover in response to anthropogenic impacts. Our project, through a highly collaborative and multi-disciplinary team provides novel research across a wide array of ecological, biological, chemical and biophysical to help support restoration, conservation and management of CVE and inshore coastal systems to safeguard the long-term sustainability of CVEs and their ecosystem services provision for humanity.
