The School for Climate Studies is a world-class institution for climate-related teaching and research in and for Africa.
We offer transdisciplinary academic capacity integrating climate-related knowledge of SU faculties with public sector climate policies and initiatives, private sector climate innovation and redress, as well as SU’s social impact mission in both academic and applied ways.
Our goal is to create and support the transition to a climate-resilient society and a low-carbon economy.
What we do

Research
Facilitating trans-disciplinary research and modelling capacities to advance the understanding of climate for adaptation and mitigation responses, policy-making to create climate resilience.

Learning and Teaching
Developing and facilitating transdisciplinary curriculum through undergraduate and postgraduate courses and programs across multiple Stellenbosch University faculties.

Collaborations and Networks
Fostering and expanding climate-related disciplinary collaborations and partnerships on climate studies and research across Stellenbosch University, Africa and internationally.

Commercialization and Social Impact
Providing climate expertise to industry, public and private organisations. Contribute towards development of climate-related technologies that can address a just transition.
